If only it was down about an inch...

My son spotted this when we were in Target:

Another example of why you need to be careful where you put the price tag :+]

Faces in the Food

Yes, I fell down on the job. While I am still thankful, I wasn't able to live up to my desire to post something every day. So... we'll just go back to business as usual, with me trying to post as often as possible, and trying not to beat myself up too bad when I fail. LOL

Today, I'm thankful for the faces in my food. My mom laughed when I whipped out my camera and took a picture of this tart, but the expression made me smile.

All the Signs Point to Voting Day

This morning I accompanied my 19-year-old son to the polling place for his first time participating in the electoral process. "Whatever happens over the next four years," I told him, "you're now partially responsible. Congratulations."

I had to laugh at the entry to the voting machines. There was absolutely no doubt we were in the right place.

The Case of the Disappearing Neck

I came across this add for a clothing line sold at a mid-scale department store. It caught my attention, but for all the wrong reasons. What happened to this poor gal's neck? Is this a case of over-enthusiastic airbrushing? Photoshop fail? It looks like a strong wind could snap her head clean off. Makes you wonder who approved this photo to go to print. Hmmm...

Christina Aguilera... and friend

This cracks me up... how did Alfred Hitchcock
sneak into this picture with Christina Aguilera?

And now, for extra fun, who out there knows
what I'm talking about?

Coming or Going? You decide...

My son and I were in Target the other day, and we saw this...

Is it any wonder people get confused?

Chuck Testa! Coolest Taxidermist Ever!

I've had a bit of a blogging sabbatical. Been busy writing a book, living life... you understand. But today my son shared these videos with me and thought, "Hey, I've got to share this fun with my friends." So here we go...

The first video is real, for taxidermist Chuck Testa:

Now that you've seen the original, you can fully appreciate the Songify version... and I dare you not to sing the chorus hours later... Chuck Testa!

How Bad do You Want this Tuxedo?

Earlier this week I took my son to Tuxedo Junction to rent his prom attire. This particular mannequin disturbed me... is it a representation of what the groom looks like after the wedding? Or does the rental cost an arm, a leg, and half a head? You be the judge...

Just for Fun - Smells Like Rockin' Robin Mashup

My friends Nate and Cora clued me into this video. It's a pretty amazing mashup of two songs you'd never expect to go together: Rockin' Robin by the Jackson 5 and Smells Like Teen Spirit by Nirvanna. Warning... once you hear it, it's going to stay in your head for awhile. Enjoy!

Just for Fun - Any Woman Could Tell You Who'd Win This Race

By now, you've probably already seen clips from this horse race that took place last Sunday. But here's the whole race. The names of the horses that come in first and second are awesome, but there are some other pretty good ones in there, too. Makes the whole race pretty unique. And kudos to the announcer for holding it together!

Just for Fun - So Darth Vadar walks onto the subway...

This video is from a group called Improv Everywhere. Can you imagine being on the subway and having this happen? Bet it would have you smiling all day!

Just for Fun - The Old Spice Guy Loves Libraries

Isaiah Mustafa became a seemingly overnight sensation with his deadpan pitches for Old Spice body wash. Now, the beautifully buff, vocally-velvet actor is doing his part to support libraries. I don't think he's going to stop there. What do you think? How long before we find a book on the shelf with his name on the spine?

Just for Fun - How about a Blizzard?

With record high temperatures across most of the country, this is the perfect time to take a look at an American institution.... Dairy Queen. See, just the name made you smile, didn't it?

One of my favorite treats at DQ is the Blizzard. And my favorite Blizzard is the Chocolate-dipped Strawberry. But for the last year, I haven't seen it on the menu. Sad, huh? Not so fast... wipe away those tears... since DQ is celebrating 25 years of the Blizzard, they've expanded the selections, bringing back tons of old favorites. Including mine!

Yep, there she is in all her glory. The Chocolate-dipped Strawberry Blizzard. Sure, it uses up half my daily allotment of fat and calories, but what a lovely treat it is. In honor of Just-for-Fun-Friday, I raise my cardboard Blizzard cup and salute you!

How about you? Are you a Blizzard fan? What's your favorite flavor?

Stars & Stripes & Muppets Forever!

After seeing this link posted by one of my Facebook friends,
I think it's a perfect way to celebrate the 4th.
May you all have a blessed Independence Day!

Just for Fun - Gandalf, Hobbits, and those infernal Vuvuzelas

You don't have to be a soccer fan to know how irritating vuvuzelas are. And you don't have to be a Lord of the Rings fan to get a laugh out of this video. Happy Friday!

Just for Fun - The Chronicles of Narnia continue...

What Peter Jackson did for The Lord of the Rings saga, so Walden Media has done for The Chronicles of Narnia. I've been so pleased wth the quality of these films, and eagerly await the next one. The Voyage of the Dawn Treader won't be out until Christmas, but here's the trailer to wet your whistle.

STUFF CHRISTIANS LIKE by Jonathan Acuff... It'll make you laugh yourself silly

Stuff Christians Like
by Jonathan Acuff

ABOUT THE BOOK

Sometimes, we fall in love on mission trips even though we know we’ll break up when we get back. Sometimes, you have to shot block a friend’s prayer because she’s asking God to bless an obviously bad dating relationship. Sometimes, you think, “I wish I had a t-shirt that said ‘I direct deposit my tithe’ so people wouldn’t judge me.”

Sometimes, the stuff that comes with faith is funny.

This is that stuff.

Jonathan Acuff’s Stuff Christians Like is your field guide to all things Christian. In it you’ll learn the culinary magic of the crock-pot. Think you’ve got a Metro worship leader? Use Acuff’s checklist. Want to avoid a prayer handholding faux pas? Acuff has you covered. Like a satirical grenade, Acuff brings us the humor and honesty that galvanized more than a million online readers from more than 200 countries in a new portable version. Welcome to the funny side of faith.

GETTING TO KNOW JONATHAN ACUFF

Who is Jonathan Acuff?
For the last ten years, I've written advertising for clients ranging from the Home Depot to Chick-fil-A. I also write a blog called Stuff Christians Life. My wife and I live with our two daughters outside of Atlanta, Georgia.

Tell us a little bit about your background and your family.
I grew up in Massachusetts with two younger brothers and a younger sister. My dad is a minister and that’s how I learned about a lot of the things I write about on SCL.

How did you get started in writing?
A teacher in the third grade laminated some poems I wrote and I fell in love with it then.

How do you find time to write?
I get up at 5AM before anyone in my family is up.

What would you say to someone who wants to become a published author?
Pick a time to write and then do it. Don’t debate whether you will write each day, just write.

Where did you get the idea for the blog... which then became book?
There was a popular site called Stuff White People Like. I feel like it’s weird that we Christians always steal popular secular ideas like making “Got Milk?” say “Got God?” I thought it would be a good idea to discuss that problem by committing that problem.

What are the major themes?
I try to clear the clutter of Christianity away so we can see the beauty of Christ.

What do you hope readers will take away from your book?
That they’ll know how fun and full of laughter a life of faith can be.

THOUGHTS FROM JEN

There aren't many books that make me laugh out loud. The problem with Stuff Christians Like is that it had me laughing so much, it threw me out of stealth reading mode. My teenage son quickly realized he was missing out on the fun. From then on, it was a battle to see who'd pick up the book first and get to say, "Oh, you've got to hear this."

What makes Stuff Christians Like so funny is the honesty of it. Anybody who's been in church for awhile can relate to these short entries with titles like Dominating the "Please Turn to..." Bible Race During Church, Side Hugs, and Using "Let Me Pray About It" As a Euphemism For "No." But don't fear. Despite his razor sharp wit, there's never a question about Acuff's motives. He's one of us, and he's laughing with us, not at us. If you need a pick-me-up, do yourself a favor and get a copy of Stuff Christians Like. Just don't read it during church... unless you want to cause a commotion.

NOTE: I received a copy of this book from the publisher for reviewing purposes.

WHAT STUFF DO YOU LIKE?

As a part of the release celebration of Stuff Christians Like, you've got a chance to share your favorite "stuff" Christians like. In 500 words or less, write your own version of Stuff Christians Like and you could be featured on Jonathan's blog - which reaches over 120,000 readers each month and has been read by 1.4 million people since it began two years ago. Check out http://stuffchristianslike.net/ for examples and inspiration. Post your entry on your blog or Facebook and email the link to info(@)blogtourspot.com. Entries must be received by midnight, CST Friday, July 2.

Just for Fun - One Author's Take on Book Reviews

I've decided we need some just-for-fun Fridays. So I'm going to try and post funny, chuckle-worthy stuff to brighten the end of the week and usher in the weekend. But if you come here on a Friday and find it postless, that doesn't mean we're not having fun... it just means my memory's not what it used to be!

This video from Amy Kathleen Ryan perfectly expresses the feelings of any author who's ever read their book reviews on Amazon.
